What are Computer Forensics and Digital Evidence?

Computer Forensics is the collection, preservation, identification, extraction, documentation, interpretation and presentation of digital evidence for evidentiary and/or root cause analysis.

Digital Evidence is information and data of investigative value that is stored or transmitted by a computer etc. In its natural state, we are unable to see what is contained in the physical object that holds the evidence. Equipment and software are required to make the evidence available; which is, by its very nature, fragile. It can be altered, damaged, or destroyed by inappropriate handling or improper examination. Special procedures and precautions should always be adopted.

Digital Evidence can be used in criminal cases, civil disputes and human resources/employment tribunal proceedings.

MD5 Limited is located in a law enforcement security vetted building, that contains a state-of-the-art, fully equipped Computer Forensics laboratory which is fully compliant with ACPO standards (presently working towards ISO 17025).
